How To Remove Limbs From A Tree

By:

One of the main reasons why people buy homes or lots with homes on them is to have trees on their land. Although trees can be beautiful, they can also require quite a bit of maintenance.

The most common maintenance chore associated with trees will be to cut off tree limbs. A person may have to cut off a dead tree limb or a tree limb that is growing too close to power lines. Tree limbs that are growing into the sides of buildings or houses should also be cut off.

Unfortunately, many people may not know how to cut off a tree limb. There are also some occasions where a homeowner should call a tree service to cut off tree limbs.

Cutting off Tree Limbs:
Most homeowners should be able to cut off tree limbs on the lower portions of trees and on smaller trees themselves. To cut off these limbs you will you need a limb saw or a small chainsaw. Both of these items can usually be purchased at a hardware or discount store.

A limb saw is a small handsaw designed for cutting limbs off trees, and is very easy to use. A small chainsaw cuts much faster but it can be dangerous to use, especially for people who have never used one. A limb saw is usually safer and cheaper so it is probably your best bet.

Anybody who is in good health should have no problems using a limb saw to cut limbs off the average tree. It is never a good idea to saw limbs off the higher portions of trees until you have had some experience doing it.

Limb Sawing Safety:
Sawing off limbs can be very dangerous, particularly when the limbs are more than a few feet off the ground. Do not cut off limbs that are more than a few feet off the ground unless you have experience doing it! If you have to climb to cut off a limb, always use a ladder or a very stable object such as a table to stand on. Never saw a limb while climbing on the tree itself.

Never cut a tree limb that is close to the power line. Always call a professional tree service to remove such limbs. If a tree limb is actually touching the power line or interfering with electric service, do not touch it or cut it. Instead, call the power company immediately your electric company has skilled technicians who can safely deal with situations.

Finally, try not to cut tree limbs while standing on the roof. This can be dangerous because you can fall off. Instead call a tree service to deal with such limbs.
