How to use an ice pack or cold compress: You will want to cover the ice pack or cold compress with something thin, clean and dry. A second, simple back pain relief technique is to lie on your back on a floor. Lie still for between 5 and 10 minutes. Your arms should be by your side with your palms down. If you need to, you can bend your knees so that your arch is supported, by pressing it into the ground.
