Go for darker colours
Bright colours often equal summer in any fashionistas eyes, so wearing a darker maxi dress in the wintertime is definitely advisable. Blacks, dark blues, browns and dark reds all work wonders at this time of year, although you could also get away with neutral tones such as sand or mocha.

Wear with leggings
One of the best things about maxi dresses is that you can get away with wearing leggings beneath them and without anyone being any the wiser. Leggings will definitely make your outfit a bit more wind-proof, which is one of the main concerns with winter clothing for most people. Make sure your leggings are nice and thick though in the summer the leggings that are sold in shops are usually quite thin to accommodate the higher temperatures, so you may need to buy yourself a winter pair that will automatically be made from a thicker fabric.

Layer it up!
If you are planning on wearing a maxi dress in winter you will definitely need to apply some layers before you even step outside. The first thing you will need is a vest top; just to give you some extra coverage underneath. This obviously means that your maxi dress needs to have a decently high neckline, otherwise the top will be on display, which is never a good look, but opting for a higher neckline will also keep you warm! Wear your leggings as well as a pair of thick socks that you can keep hidden from view with your shoes. For your outer layers, choose a waistcoat or chunky knit cardigan, but whatever you do dont do it up keep them open to give a summery look.

Get your boots on
You will already have realised that you cant wear your favourite summer sandals with your maxi dress at this time of year, but a pair of pixie boots or biker boots would look great instead. If your maxi dress as a slit up the side it would look even better too.
