How To Post Delicate Objects

By:

When sending packages through the post, one of the things that regularly baffles people is how to send delicate, easily-breakable items. However think of shops that ship items such as china ornaments or wine glasses or delicate technological equipment every day. There are solutions to the problem if you know what to do.
Posting delicate items can be one of the most frustrating things to do. What should you pack it with? Should you send it first class? Should you use bubble wrap? There are so many questions that most people just have no idea about. Luckily there are many ways to send delicate items.
Obviously, for some delicates bubble wrap is a perfectly good solution to posting those delicates. However, for glass and bigger objects it can sometimes be more awkward to use bubble wrap with these. Another way that can be more effective for packaging other delicates is the use of packing foam. Foam packaging has excellent cushioning qualities and protection.
There are many different types of foam that can be used depending on the items that you are sending. Polyurethane foams are spongier foams which allow extra cushioning to the items that you are posting. This foam includes profiled foam, which is an egg box styled foam. This allows more protection for your items.
Polyethylene foam is excellent for posting delicates and will normally be found in packing such as with TVs, computers and other large valuables. Polyethylene packaging can be cast, cut, glued or moulded which make it perfect for a large range of packing uses. There are various types of polyethylene foams such as Neopolen, Stratocell, Plastazote, Jiffy foam & Ethafoam; it is also available in pink, which is an anti-static stratocell.
Packing foam is now also available in biodegradable forms, called Greencell which is an alternative to more conventional foams. This can be used in a variety of ways and is also suitable to for die-cutting. The natural anti-static qualities of the foam make it perfect for packing delicate electronics. Most foam packing can be re-used and some foam such as Stratocell can be returned to the manufacturer for recycling.
When sending delicate items make sure you go to your local post office or delivery company and get your package weighed and given the correct shipping instructions. You can get the parcel marked as fragile and can also advise if the package needs to be stored standing upright or not. Your local post office or shipping company will be able to advise the best option for you so you dont waste all your packing efforts.
