How To Pack Your Package For Your Courier Pickup

By:

One of the best ways to save both time and money when having a delivery made by a San Francisco messenger service is to be sure that you understand well ahead of time what their requirements are for packaging and labeling a package. Courier companies usually have a sheet of guidelines on this subject which they can give to you or email to you in order to ensure that you have everything ready for them when their courier actually arrives at your location.

Not adhering to their guidelines, or incorrectly packaging something, can cause you numerous delays and problems. First of all, you will inevitably delay the messenger that arrives at your location, as they may have to wait for you to fix the error in your packing before they can take your package. Worse yet, if your package will take to long to repack correctly, they may refuse to take your package and return the next day for it, and you will be forced to pay a penalty for the waste of the drivers time. That is why ensuring that you know and stick to the guidelines can be both a time and cost saving measure.

Usually, the guidelines for correct packing are fairly simple. Plain, unmarked packages or envelopes are preferred, with the shipping address clearly marked with the approved shipping label of the particular courier company that you are doing business with. Always ask though, as they may have different guidelines as to how the package must be labeled, or they might have special requirements for certain types of cargo. It is important to realize that the responsibility for proper packing is yours, and anything that is breakable must be packed in such a way to protect it, as the courier company is not responsible for damage that is sustained by an object as a result of normal stresses if it was packed incorrectly by you.

Labeling your package is just as, if not even more, important than packing. If your package is labeled incorrectly, it can end up at the wrong destination, get lost, or get returned to you. Be sure that you place the shipping label in a clearly visible location with all information legibly filled out so that there can be no confusion as to where your package is going. As with all things, if you are unsure, never be afraid to simply ask your courier company for some instruction on how to go about properly labeling your package, as it will save you time in the long run.
