How To Overcome Bad Weather For Your Golf Tournament

By:

Even when you've planned your entire golf outing properly, it still doesn't protect against the possibility of bad weather. Having a second plan of attack can come in handy just in case some bad weather happens in the middle of your event. It's best to be ready and to be able to go with the flow so your players can continue to have fun and your tournament can still come out a success.

You should view bad weather as a venue to showcase your great planning skills and as a chance to show the sponsors how much you truly appreciate their time, support, and their participation. While it is always possible to use bad weather insurance, it won't necessarily protect you against people thinking that you can't put on a great tournament, rain or shine. If you're properly prepared with alternative activities such as a raffle, games, fun snacks, or even an interesting speaker, then you will really have made the most of your opportunity and ensured continued participation to your tournament in the years to come.

Some coordinators at golf courses are willing to accommodate tournaments in the case of bad weather. They prefer to maintain their good business relationships, but they will also probably suggest proper planning just in case a bad storm does occur. One of the most important things to consider is whether you will get your deposit back in the case of bad weather. Will you get a percentage back or the entire amount? Always remember to read the fine print of your golf tournament contract!

Here are some ideas for activities in the case your tournament occurs the same weekend as some bad weather:

1. Have a speaker on hand. This could be anyone from a local celebrity to a pro golfer that is available to do a Q&A session.
2. Have cocktails available. Offer them to keep the golfers and players occupied in case the weather passes.
3. Shift the meal times or other pre-planned activities.
4. Consider asking the golf course to offer the players rain checks so they can get another round of golf at a later date.
5. Consider offering a cooking class.
6. A wine tasting may also bring favorable memories and enjoyment.
6. Set up a networking area and connect the golfers. Have some games or ice breakers organized and smooth the process to get them talking.
7. Have a trivia game available. This can be fun for all ages and players of all skill levels.
8. Consider a poker game or some other card game. Wager money to spice things up.

Whatever you decide to do, the most important thing is to be proactive and to ensure the continued success of your golf tournament.
