For UK readers if you wish to organise a Grand Prix trip of a lifetime that does not cost the earth firstly we need to find a location that is not too far away. This way we will keep the location fairly close to earth to keep travel costs down. Let me introduce you to the Monaco Grand Prix. Its a fabulous place for sightseeing and shopping not to mention eating out so if you are a girlfriend or wife doing the organising be sure to research your shopping.

The Monaco Grand Prix, or as the French would say the Grand Prix de Monaco, has been running since 1929 and is considered to be one of the most prestigious motor racing events in the world. It is not too costly to get to, and once there you can enjoy life in the playrground of the rich and famous.

So for those that are not totally au fait with the Grand Prix let me elighten you a little about the Monaco Grand Prix.

The track itself is the known Circuit de Monaco. It runs through the streets of Monaco which boasts sharp bends and a tunnel. This makes is a dangerous track to race on and sees below average speeds during racing time.

During the swinging sixties Graham Hill won five times which gave him a new name of Mr Monaco. The driver who has won the race more times than any other contender is Brazilian Ayrton Senna. If you do organise a trip you wil be able to show off with some of these facts.

The Circuit de Monaco runs through the city streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine and includes the famous harbour. The challenge of the course lends itself to being one of the most demanding tracks in Formula One racing. Drivers have crashed and ended up in the harbour.

Triple Formula One champion Piquets quoted that racing at Monaco was like trying to cycle round your living room and also that a win here was worth two anywhere else.

The tunnel adds to the demands of the course due to raipd change from bright light to darkness. The race course needs to be built and dismantled which takes upto six weeks.

Monaco is a tax haven and playground to the rich and famous including Formula One drivers. This race has been run under the patronage of three generations of Monacos royal family who have always taken a close interest in the race.

It is claimed that the best place to view the Grand Prix is from the Casino Square, and better still at the Cafe de Paris. Seating at this location is usually higher due to the excellent vantage points, and the famous location.

Whilst the Grand Prix is on Monte Carlo will be a very busy sea side resort. The harbour will be busy with visitors, the hotels are usually fully booked, the chair lifts will not be running so everyone walks.

The weekend of the race usually coincides with the Monaco Festival of Arts. You will find street entertainers and a wonderful buzzing atmosphere. There are plenty of hills, as the town is located on a cliff top. One of the reasons that the circuit is so demanding is the many steep elevations.

Monaco offers fabulous dining in terms of number of high class restaurants. In fact there are around 130 restaurants within 2 square kilometres. Prices seem to increase the closer you get to infamous and elite Casino Square.

If you wish to plan that Grand Prix trip then here are some tips. Book well in advance first of all. Hotels and restaurants gets booked up in advance of the race.

Decide on how long you are going for. This might sound obvious but there is not much different in package prices from going for 3 nights to mkaing it a 5 night trip.

The length of stay also dictacts which races you are able to watch. There is a practise race on the Thursday, a qualifying race on the Saturday and the grand race final on the Sunday.

Decide on which seats you want. Are you happy to settle for cheap and cheerful bucket seats or would you rather enjoy a luxurious VIP luncheon at one of the best vantage points in Monaco.

Flights will need to be booked. Again they need to be booked well in advance. If you opt for a Grand Prix hospitality package check that flights are included in the price.

Finally enjoy the trip.
