How To Obtain Baby-soft Skin Again

When a crab outgrows it's shell, it sheds the old one. If a starfish accidentally loses one of its arms, it can grow a new one. In the same way, when we get a sunburn, the effected layers quickly start to peel off and fall away. The process of replacing that old, worn out skin with a new, fresh one is called skin regeneration, and it is happening to your skin constantly, even if you don't realize it.

In the skin there are 5 different layers. When the top layer of the skin gets worn out, new skin cells (called keratinocytes) begin to rise to the surface. Simultaneously, the older cells start peeling off, and new blood vessels are formed to bring better blood flow and oxygen to the skin. This new layer also forms an effective barrier to the entry of foreign matter and infectious agents into the body and minimizes moisture loss. Melanin, the chemical that gives our skin color, is reorganized, reducing age spots and discoloration.

Knowing this, it is easier to understand how children can play outside every day, be battered by the sun, pollution, wind, rain, etc., and still have great skin! Sadly, like most things, as time goes on, our skin's regeneration system slows down a bit. Instead of going through this process of renewal every 2-3 weeks, it happens less and less frequently. I'm sure you have seen the skin of your older family and friends, and how much rougher it is than a baby's skin. This comes about because the older we are, the more the old skin just piles up and gets thicker and rougher, instead of being replaced frequently by new, fresh layers. And unsurprisingly, if the old layer isn't peeling off as often, all of the blemishes and age spots stay where they are for much longer.

Back to the Future-Retaining the Skin of our Childhood

There are natural skin care products becoming available now that help to reverse this process and improve your skin's ability to renew itself. Among these products you will more than likely find natural oils or other biological compounds. However, one of the most key ingredients to look for, (although it's surprising), is snail serum. This serum is the substance that snails produce to keep them moist and hydrated, but it also has another function that many people might never imagine. This serum helps rejuvenate damaged skin cells, by forcing the old cells to fall away by pushing new, fresh cells into their places. In addition, it helps your skin to keep producing enough melanin to evenly distribute skin coloration. Aging wrinkle creams containing natural ingredients are also good for boosting the immune system and giving you extra protection against the harmful effects of the sun and pollution.

Here is what to look for, to recap: Try to find a cream that is 100% natural and doesn't include any harsh chemicals. Harsh chemicals will just cause more irritation. Furthermore, check that it is a product that is proven to not only exfoliate (get rid of the old cells), but also increase production of new blood cells, melanocyte cells, and skin cells. And as always, be sure to check the product reviews and make sure that people who have used it have been happy with the results. This can be a great first step in the right direction to having radiant, youthful skin once again!
