How To Manage Problems With Your Cigar Humidor Hygrometer

Many people think that the cigars themselves are the most important part of a hobby. While choosing and collecting the right cigars should certainly be very important, your choices will not matter if you do not have properly functioning cigar accessories. It is vital that all accessories, especially your humidor, are working properly. If they malfunction, they will have a direct affect on those cigars and that affect will be a negative one.

Because there are different types of hygrometers, you will need to troubleshoot them in different ways. If you have a digital device, then the process will be different from an analog hygrometer. Make sure you are familiar with the right process for the type of device that you have. Then, you can troubleshoot it properly and get your humidor working again as quickly as possible. The main problem that can happen with a humidor hygrometer of either type is that it could lose calibration. You will need to calibrate it so that it can work properly for your humidor.

If you have a digital hygrometer, you will need salt, distilled water, a small plastic container, and a baggie. Create a mixture of salt and water that is very thick, almost like a paste. You should put that mixture in the small container, and then put the container along with the hygrometer into the baggie. Leave this sitting for a full day to two days. The hygrometer should read 75%. If it does not, you can just calibrate it so that it will function properly.

If you have an analog hygrometer, simply wrap it in a towel that is soaked in water and let it sit for an hour. The hygrometer should give you a 100% humidity reading. If it does not, then you know you need to calibrate it. You just need to set it to 100% at that time. If you have a digital hygrometer, you will need to place it in an air tight bag along with a container that holds a salt water mixture. After one day, your hygrometer should show a humidity reading of 75%. If it does not, you will need to recalibrate it to show that reading. If you follow these steps in any case, you should easily have a properly working hygrometer for your cigar humidor.

Making sure your cigars are able to properly age means making sure that your cigar humidor is functioning correctly. Doing so means being able to troubleshoot any issue that could arise, like a mis-calibrated hygrometer. You can easily learn to troubleshoot and recalibrate your hygrometer so you will not continue to have any humidity reading trouble in your cigar humidor.
