WordPress is the best blogging platform. It has its reasons too; it is easy to install, free of charge and a very good friend of google. WordPress is very good in itself at being SEO friendly right from word go without having to do much at all. However like most things there is always room for improvement.

1. Customize your WordPress blog permalink for SEO. As standard WordPress creates permalinks using "p=postid" which as you can see isn't very search engine friendly. You can have far more success with you permalinks just like your domain name if you use topic related post names and category names for you permalinks. To change the format of the permalinks just enter your WordPress control panel and go to Settings - Permalinks and under custom structure enter /%category%/%postname%/ or you can also use /%postname%/.

2. Write Regular Content. Also, do not forget to write regularly. Don't be irregular in your writing, and make sure your articles are quality, since there is nothing a search engine loves more.

3. Pay attention to page titles - Search spiders will see titles and headlines (H1 Tags) first, so they will need to be targeted. Make sure each blog post utilizes some unique keyword tags.

4. Optimize Your Image, An often overlooked part of WordPress SEO is how you handle your images. By doing stuff like writing good alt tags for images and thinking of how you name the files, you can get yourself a bit of extra traffic from the different image search engines. Next to that, you're helping out your lesser able readers who check out your site in a screen reader, to make sense of what's otherwise hidden to them

4. Use Wordpress SEO Plugin to optimize your blog, this plugin will allow you to configure your blog structure so you can get search engine love your website.

WordPress SEO isn't something you want to ignore. It seems like a small thing on paper, but it's these small things that are going to put you ahead of your competition.
