How To Make Your Living Room Perfect?

By:

The living room is the core of the house. It's a place to host guests and spend time with your family. We should make sure to arrange this space in a way, so that everyone will feel comfortable there - working, resting or having a nap. There are some myths as to 'how to' and 'how not to' decorate the living room and knowing them will help you create a perfect place according to your needs.

Myths about living room:

"Your living room has to impress"

A temptation to impress the guests should never dominate the comfort and individual needs of inhabitants. Living room is a place to live - it has to serve us well when we need to rest, work, watch TV or hang out with old friends. If the place will be cluttered with designers' furniture, too many expensive accessories, artworks on the walls it will resemble a shop or a gallery and will make us feel awkward. And our guests might not feel so comfortable in too formal and theatrical environment.

"Two armchairs and a sofa is the only way to go"

It is a possibility - a set of armchairs and a sofa, of the same design, colours and fabrics cannot go wrong - it's a good solution for those of us who don't feel so comfortable making interior design-related decisions on their own. But that is not the only possibility. Each of the armchairs and the sofa can have a different look - different design, fabrics, even different time - as long as they are matched with harmony or have a common theme - a colour for example. This will give us more freedom in arranging the rest of the room and will give the space more individual character.

"The sofa should be by the wall"

It makes sense when your living room is small, but when there is a lot of room we gain more possibilities. Arranging the sofa and the armchairs in a right way can create separate spaces, each with a different ambience and different destination. You could put 2 small sofas around the TV set and put an armchair a bit further away, or in a corner, next to a lamp - this will be a perfect place to read.

"You should never work in the living room"

People who work at home and have no chance to dedicate one of the rooms as an office should not hesitate installing the desk in the living room. Especially in the computer era, when everyone surfs on the internet such place is necessary. Furthermore, in most cases it is the biggest room in the apartment and this gives us lots of possibilities. You could separate such corner with a screen, put it behind the sofa or by one of the walls - make sure there is enough of sunlight in this spot, so consider putting it next to the biggest window. Don't let the atmosphere of work take over the room - that's why look for a desk with doors that will let you hide the computer when necessary. Always make sure the desk and the chair you work at matches the style of the rest of the room.
