Having to begin a mold clean up can be an unpleasant chore. This is not something you want to be doing too regularly; especially if it means you are crawling around in your basement or up in your attic. You want to make sure that you do this mold clean up effectively enough to get rid of the mold permanently.

For years people have relied on bleach to kill mold, but now other people are questioning the wisdom of this. It is argued that while bleach might kill most of the mold it wont completely eradicate it and the fact that bleach is mostly made up of water means that you could be even adding to the problem. Other people swear by bleach or even put their faith in vinegar solutions. If you want to be completely sure that you are getting rid of mold then it might be an idea to purchase something that has been especially designer for this purpose. At least that way you will have more peace of mind; just make sure you read and follow the instructions.

If you want to be effective in your mold clean up you will need to find all of it. Make sure you search all over. If it turns out that you have quite a bit of mold then you would probably be wise to call in the professionals. At least this way you can be sure that the job will be done properly; that is assuming you get a reputable company to do the work.

Once you have completed the mold clean up you will have arrived at the most important part of the operation; finding what caused the mold to occur in the first place and removing that cause. There are a number of reasons why you are experiencing mold depending on what part of the house you have the problem. For the sake of simplicity they can be reduced to two main causes; poor ventilation and dampness. Mold needs moisture and dead organic material to thrive so if you eliminate one of these you eliminate the problem. You probably cant remove all the wood and other organic material from your home so you need to eliminate the moisture. If the water is coming from leaks then you will need to repair these. If the water is coming from condensation then you will need to improve your ventilation.
