How To Make Bandit Signs Work And How They Can Help You Find Potential Sellers

What Are Bandit Signs?

Let's start with what are bandit signs? A lot of people may not know what they are. You should know at this time of year because with the political aspects you will see dozens of bandit signs all over your local highways and intersections from the politicians. Especially if you have some contested political races in your area you'll see these.

They are the signs that you see on the road that are typically 18x24 inches. They can be different sizes, but that is the typical size. They will have a short message on them.

In the case of politicians they're basically going to just have their name and maybe one or two words about some issue they're supporting or whatever. They're going to be very short and sweet.

Rules and Regulations

One of the interesting things about bandit signs and about local jurisdictions in terms of rules and regulations is that politicians are excluded from those rules and regulations. That's always interesting that politicians can put out as many bandit signs as they want and they're perfectly permitted.

You and I who are trying to support a profitable business, make a living, and support maybe some employees, we do not have that same right and privilege. Keep that in mind that our politicians get special treatment. They are allowed to put out signs at will and clutter up our highways with no repercussions, where you and I can't do that.

Color and Message

Bandit signs do have some tricks to doing them. One is that you must get a really good combination of colors and message. We've talked about message quite a bit.

In this case you have very limited space. You only have enough space that you have to think about somebody that's either driving by potentially at 15, 20, 30 miles an hour, or possibly has stopped at an intersection at a red light and they're only going to have 30 seconds or so to see your message. It cannot be a detailed message.

One of the major problems that I see with a lot of people that do bandit signs is they put too much stuff on it. What happens is the text gets so small that you can't see it at all. I've got bad eyes and I struggle sometimes to read signs.

There are bandit signs out there where they try to put three or four different lines on there and it's worthless. They've absolutely wasted their money because it's so small you can't read the message.

The point about bandit signs is you want to put a single line of text - your message - a phone number, and maybe a website. That's it. Do not try to put anything more. If you try to put anything more than that what happens is the message gets so small it's not worthwhile.

We're trying to get a quick message across to people that are moving at a fairly rapid speed. The message has to be short and crisp.
