How To Maintain Your Paper Shredder?

CLEANING YOUR PAPER SHREDDER

The first step to the maintenance of paper shredder is the cleaning of the home shredder or office shredder. However, before you start cleaning the paper shredder, ensure that the power switch is turned off and unplugged from the electrical cord.

Now, remove the lid from the main container in order to clean personal shredder or commercial heavy duty shredder and disassemble the shredder. If you need assistance with the disassembling or detaching of specific parts of the machine, call manufacturer or consult the user manual provided with the shredder. Use lukewarm water or rubbing alcohol combined with dish washing soap to clean off dust, ink stains, or paper particles with a regular piece of cloth or towel.

Note: Do not pour soap and water solution on to the shredder directly.
Once the cleaning is complete, let the machine air dry.
MAINTAINING YOUR PAPER SHREDDER

Maintaining of Paper Shredder means adequate and routine lubrication of the shredder, be it a strip cut shredder or a cross cut shredder. Regular oiling of paper shredder is essential for safekeeping as well as optimum performance in case of continuous and rigorous shredding. For strip cut shredders, proper and complete lubrication is recommended once a week as per popular shredder reviews and for crosscut shredders, lubrication should be done more often i.e. twice per week is recommended. Insufficient or irregular oiling might result in slower speed, frequent paper jams, and noise.

For lubrication of an office shredder or an industrial shredder, you will want to use the oil that is purposely manufactured for that shredder. Shredder oil comes in a convenient bottle or aerosol cans, check manufacturer specification to ensure that the shredder oil you have selected is right for the shredder. It is recommended to include shredder oil in the shredder buy package to avoid confusion.

Lubrication of personal shredder or commercial shredder is almost alike and simple. You can either put oil directly on the paper shredder using the dropper attached in the bottle by turning the bottle upside down or run the oil through the machine using a piece of cloth or paper. In both cases, do not dump too much oil in the paper shredder.

When you are completed with the oiling, clean off the excessive amount of oil from the shredder, put all the paper shredder pieces together to assemble the machine, and give it a normal run to see if it is working fine. Now, your paper shredder is ready to use again!
