How To Live The Christian Life Plug Into The Right Source

By:

Living the Christian life requires a constant stream of energy. Without a power source behind your activity, the Christian life falls into an endless list of unattainable commandments to keep. To do the impossibleto go the extra mile, to turn the other cheek, to return evil with goodrequires a 24/7 stream of power.

Thats why the power cord attached to your life never gets unplugged. At times you may spiritually feel like it has, but it hasnt. But how you feel about your Christian lifeyour sense as to whether or not youre on the right trackis definitely a function of what power source youve plugged into. And when you feel like youve wavered off course, chances are its the source that created the problem.

The power to get up-and-go doesnt reside in the cord, or even the prongs at the end of the cord, but rather behind the plug itself. So, any power you may or may not have in your spiritual life directly relates to whether or not what youve chosen to plug into can deliver the voltage to charge-up your life.

I imagine after reading the three paragraphs above, youve already jumped ahead to where you think this line of reasoning leads to. You probably assume the point of this blog is to plug your life into Jesus and not into other things the world offers, like money, power, and pride. Of course, I certainly advocate you plugging into Christ and nothing else, and at the end of this blog post, thats exactly what Im going to suggest you do.
But without you understanding what Im about to say, Im afraid you might mistakenly believe youve plugged into Christ when in fact you havent. In other words, the enemy has created a snare that many people fall into, giving them an illusion of connecting with Christ, only in their time of need to discover someone or something turned off the electricity.

I want you to imagine two electrical receptorsjust like those you find on any wallone of which connects to you and the other which connects to Christ. Behind each plug resides the source from which you can draw power from.

Behind the plug attached to Christ sits all the power of heaven. Simply plug into His life and all the resources He possesses that pertain to living flow into you. You need faith? You need hope? You need love? These threeand whatever else you needfreely flow into your life. In this scenario, you do the living, and Jesus supplies the life!

Behind the plug attached to you resides all the power contained in your self-life. Each of us receives a various amount of talent, strengths, and temperament. Some receive more than others, some gifted more than others. Yet regardless of what you received, there is a limit as to what you have to offer. You can never give more power than what your self-life can produce.

At some point in life, you encounter a situation taking you to the limits of power that your self-life can produce. You discover that you simply cannot spiritually learn, feel, or do your way out of your current predicament.

What you really need is to change power sources. You need to unplug your life from your own spiritual self-effort and plug into Christ.

But thats not what most Christians do. Instead, we fall prey to the enemys snare that I mentioned earlier. Instead of plugging into Christ, we try to plug Him into our own lives. We unwittingly believe that somehow plugging Jesus into our lives will solve our power drain. That maybe with Christ plugged into your life He will add power to your self-life and make you better.

Jesus is the source of the source of the source.

But how does the light of a Christian life wanting to become better shine any brighter than the lives of those in the self-help world promoting a teaching which promises to make you better through self-effort? Adding Christian principles to a worldly strategy to better ones self only creates the illusion of spirituality. For something to really be spiritualfor something to be Christianthe thought, the feeling, the action has to originate from the power residing behind Christs plug and not your own.

Christ didnt come to this Earth and willingly allow Himself to die on the cross, rise again three days later, and then come into your life so that He could make-you-better. Jesus plan was never to inject spiritual collagen into an otherwise wrinkled and limp Christian life, so as to make it look more plump and full-bodied. From the beginning of time, Christ knew the only hope for someone as broken down as you and I would require Him to totally take over our lives and with that, supply us with all the power of heaven.

Yet like a dominant gene that gets passed from one-generation-to-the-next, the lie that somehow doing better makes you better manifests itself in most Christians lives. The thought of reading more bible, praying longer, or witnessing louder somehow lulls us into believing that were advancing in our Christian lives. Until, of course, a situation hits us out-of-left-field that no amount of our doing will fix.

God arranges the events of your life in such a way as to confront you with unplugging your life from your own self-effort and plugging into Christ. Some people yield and choose Him as the power source, while others dont. Because of the grace God offers us in Jesus, its possible for you to be a Christian, yet still live all your days trying to suck power out of your own self-life.

But why would you want to do that when all the power of heaven lives inside of you in the person of Jesus? Why not just plug into Him?

After having lived the Christian life for many years, Ive discovered exactly how to plug in to Christ. Once you realize how simple this is to do, youll never go back to plugging your life back into your own self-effort.
