How To Indirectly Generate Sales Through Ppc Advertising

By:

A lot of people who run their own online businesses spend lots of money on pay-per-click advertising services such as Google Adwords in order to generate more sales. However just sending this traffic directly to your sales page or product pages is not always the most profitable strategy.

This is certainly true if you own a website which sells high ticket items, particularly in today's economy where a lot of people have less money to spend on expensive higher priced products. If you send PPC traffic directly to your sales page for these products you may well find that your conversion rate is extremely low, and depending on your profit margins, may not even be profitable.

This is why it's generally a much better strategy to send PPC traffic to an opt-in page which collects the names and email addresses of your visitors. This way you will always have a marketable list of prospects you can sell to, and if you are selling expensive items then you will increase the chances of making some sales because you can pre-sell the benefits of your products across multiple emails.

So the end result is that rather than seeing say 95% or more of your visitors leaving your site without buying your product, you may well see opt-in rates of around 30-40% meaning that you are building your list all the time and increasing your chances of making some decent sales. Of course you need to provide a compelling reason for them to join your list such as offering a free product or product sample, but if you can do this then these high conversion rates are certainly obtainable.

At the very least you should always have an opt-in form on your product pages because even if people are not ready to buy your product, or are not yet convinced, at least there is a chance they will subscribe to your list and maybe buy from you later on. PPC advertising can be brutal so you need to maximise your profits as much as possible. Therefore it's a good idea to try and build your email list along the way because you may well find that the future profits from this list will more than compensate for your initial advertising costs.

There is not really a best practice for PPC advertising as regards promoting product pages v opt-in landing pages. A lot will depend on the types of products you sell. However even if you only send PPC visitors to your sales page, it's always a good idea to include an opt-in form as well because the money really is in the list.
