How To Increase Your Power In Business Immediately And For Free

By:

No matter what kind of business you are in, there are only three sources of power available to you. And it does not matter how successful you are or how much experience you have - everyone has the same amount of the most powerful source. What makes the difference is how you use it!

So what are these three sources? Very simply they are Money, Energy and Time. If you ask most new business people, they will tell you that money is the most important of these three - which is really not true. Money is simply the one that we are most aware of - in our everyday lives, we are constantly bombarded with news about how limited money is, how much we can save, where to invest and who is ready to lend us more if we need it. All this advertising just tells you one thing - there is clearly no shortage of money! After all - they print more of it each day. There is a difference between the person that makes $3/hr and the person that makes $3,000/hr - but it has nothing to do with how much money they started out with.

The second source then is energy - have you ever noticed how much energy some people seem to have and how much they get done in a day? That's no surprise - having more energy makes you quicker to complete the things you have to do, giving you more time to do extra things - these are the people who hold down several jobs, are busy in their church and still build a second income on the side... The great thing there is that everyone can have that kind of energy - it's a whole subject for another day, but you can make a great start simply by studying nutrition and taking good care of yourself. Finally - clear out anything that's on your mind - if you owe money, get a plan in place - if there's something you have been delaying - just get it done. Anything that is hanging over you needs to be handled - it's amazing how much energy simply taking care of those things can release.

However, the third source of power is the most precious and the most important - yet it is amazing how we often approach it. Time is finite for all of us - we may not know exactly how much time we have, but we do know there is a limit. Each hour that passes is gone - it doesn't matter what you do or how much money you have, you cannot borrow more time or sell something to get more. And yet we "waste", "pass" and "kill" time - how often have you used those phrases? With something this vital and this limited - we should be "investing", "saving" and "leveraging" it wherever possible.

When I first got this concept, it was quite an eye-opener - but there was still one question. My days were already full, so how could I possibly use my time better? Here are three tips to start using your time to its fullest:

First - make a diary. Just like a food diary before you start a diet, you will be able to see how your time is spent every day. Put as much detail into this diary as you can - it's usually not the big things that steal our time, it's a lot of small things - so log everything!

Secondly - make one big list, your diary will help you with this, and write down everything that you do. Now break that list into three sections. The first section is all the things that only you can do - for example, no-one else can take a shower for you! The next section is all the things that you enjoy doing - these are very important to keep your sanity, but could be done by someone else in a pinch. And the final section is all the things that you really don't enjoy and don't have to do yourself - this is the money list. Start looking for ways to get this list done outside - it could be a laundry service, or hiring someone for the yardwork. Everyone's lists will be different - I don't enjoy doing yardwork, for example, but I know a few who find it very therapeutic.

Finally - and this is the most powerful of the three - start using to-do lists every day. I like to make my list at the end of one day for the next day, and what this does is take care of one of the biggest time stealers - confusion! You know the kind of day - there's so much going on that you cannot decide what to tackle next. Now imagine going into a day with a plan - now you are in control. It will still be busy, but you will know exactly what needs to get done, by who and how important it is.

When you start treating your time as the valuable commodity that it is, and you start to use these three tips - you will not only get more done each day, but you will find yourself less stressed and more relaxed in the process. Now - Whatever, that can only be good news!
