How To Increase Web Sales - Increasing Online Conversion Rate Will Increase Internet Sales

By:

Most businesses do not understand the full importance of optimizing the online conversion rate of their website. They believe that all they need to do is optimize their website to get traffic in the following ways:

* Running Pay Per Click(PPC) campaigns, where the business pays for the traffic to their websites

* Running a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign where the business optimizes website content for keywords and keyword phrases to get free traffic to their website from the search engines

* Running article marketing campaigns where the business writes helpful informative articles to article directories with links that point back to their website to get traffic

There are a lot of ways to get a steady stream of web traffic to your website but this does not mean that you will get more sales. Increasing online conversion will increase Internet sales for your business. This is a key concept to get a hold of since it is an important indicator of your website's profitability.

There are several reasons why a website has a poor conversion rate where only a small percentage of the traffic is converted to sales. The following are some of the reasons for poor online conversion rates:

* The website design is bad. It may the colors are not pleasing to most of your visitors or it could be the layout of the website is not easy visitors to follow.

* The website lacks good content or appropriate content for the target market

* The website could be bad altogether where it is a combination of the previous two and is generally too slow or takes too long to open in the visitor's web browser.

The above are only a few reasons which can be corrected. You can correct the above by doing the following:

* Researching your target market so that you know what makes them tick. This includes researching any competitors you have in the marketplace. You will get an idea of what appeals to your target market in content tone, style of website designs, and color schemes which are working for your competitors.

* Design your site to make your customers feel special by laying out the site neatly and simply and with their point of view in mind. You can do this by using the market research you did for your target market to think like the customer. The design of your website is about the customers' target market and their esthetics, not yours.

* The site should be designed for ease of use for your customer. Customers will leave your site if the site is confusing to use.

* Remove any distractions from website content by removing anything which would take away from the message of your content

* Make certain to pay special attention to the quality and size of the graphics and photos used on your site. The quality of the graphics and photos should be good quality and the size should not be too big or too small. Remember not too use flamboyant graphics with too many colors or odd fonts as this distracts from your content. Graphics and photos should complement your content, not keep visitors from seeing it.

* Do not use too many graphics or photos. This will make your website look to busy and distract users from your content's message.

* Use easy to read familiar fonts which are from similar families. Keep the number of fonts to a minimum of no more than 3 fonts. Remember how a newspaper or magazine uses fonts. They do this so that you are not distracted from reading the story. Your customer needs this too.

* Consider a well targeted message in your sales pitch which is honest and not over-hyped. You need to earn your customer's trust for them to buy from you and they should get what they see in your content.

* Do not consider your site is perfect or the best there is for conversion. This thinking is the surest way to kill your sales in the long run. Your customer's needs, interests, and preferences evolve over time. You need to consider your website a work in progress which should evolve with your customers.

* Do A/B split testing of your website with Google Website Optimizer. A/B split testing is where you take your website and create an identical version of it with a change to at least one part of the website and run a test where half your traffic sees the original site and the other half see the site with the change you made. You measure the conversion rates of each version of the site and pick the one with the best conversion rate. This should be done constantly where you change a portion of your site or its content and test the effect on your conversion with the aim of getting the best conversion rate for your site.

* Learn to measure your sites online conversion performance. You can use Google Analytics to do this. It is free and is used by many businesses to get a good idea of how the website converts traffic.

All of the above are just a beginning and should be done by you to improve the conversion rate of your website. This will increase your sales and thus your profitability.

If you do not do this your competitors will.
