How To Host A Fund-raising Carnival

By:

For many parents who serve on committees for their local public schools, much time is spent trying to find creative ways to raise funds for needed school projects. If you find yourself in this group, learn some tips to host a successful carnival that will boost your budget for the year. Fund-raising can be difficult, but using some of the following tips doing a fund-raising carnival can be a great way to accomplish this.

Think Simple
Do not succumb to the notion that you need to create a carnival worthy of national awards. Simple will be better for many reasons, mainly because it will save you money. Remember you are trying to create funds rather than spend them. At the same time, you want to create a space and experience that others want to be a part of. Including games such as a fishing pond, throwing rings on pegs and bean bag toss are easy to set-up, manage and take down at the end of the night.

Advertise
You will need the support of community members, parents and staff to pull off a successful night. Make sure and send out fliers early so that everyone is aware of the date and can put it on their calendar. As the date gets closer, be sure to send out reminder notes so that everyone is in attendance. When you advertise, do not limit yourself to those who attend your school. Advertise in your community so that those in the surrounding areas who may not have children who attend your school can also support your efforts.

Recruit Helpers
The best way to generate a lot of interest is to start asking for help very early. You can divide up the tasks in categories having each member of your group be a part of an advertising, auctions or games committee. You can also ask for parent volunteers who are willing to man the stations during the night or help clean up.

Variety of Methods
For the most part your carnival will be games that the children can play for a set fee. Most find that it's useful to sell tickets and then the tickets are redeemable at each station. This way your money is centrally located and you won't have the worry of rounding up everyone's supply at the end of the night. In addition to games the kids can participate in, think about selling food. Pizza, snow cone machines and cotton candy are all good ways to keep people browsing throughout the night and spending more money.
