How To Host A Boutique

By:

Organizing a community event where you are selling boutique items is a great way to earn money and bring community members together. Careful planning and dedication will be required on your part to be successful, but it is possible. Follow these suggestions to organize, plan and host a successful boutique.

Location
You will need to secure a location for your boutique that is easy to find and has ample parking for your customers. Look into using a model home, a vacant home or a community center. On the day of the boutique you will want to be visible from the surrounding area, so be sure and also find a location that sees a lot of traffic.

Advertise
This is likely where you will spend the majority of your budget. You can send fliers in mail, set up an email campaign, advertise with social media and hang signs and posters in your community. Your first effort should be focused on obtaining vendors who will sale their wares at your event. Once these have been secured you can seek more exposure to bring more customers to your boutique.

Variety of Products
As you select and contract with vendors, be sure to acquire a wide variety of products. You want to appeal to a wide audience and if you only have one type of product you will not be successful. Think about what is appealing to your target audience and then go after products in all those areas. Everything from quilt kits, crochet baby hats, purses, candles, bows, home decor and jewelry sell very well. You just want to make sure and have a little of everything.

Price Points
Along with selecting a wide variety of products, it is also wise to ensure your customers have a variety of price points to select from. If everything in your boutique is fifty dollars or more, you will be less successful than if you have a product offered in all prices. Toward the register, where customers check out, offer a pretty display of items that are five dollars or less. Think like big box stores do--people will grab a last minute purchase because it's inexpensive and right in front of their eyes.

Food
Everyone becomes hungry when they shop. Offer some time of snack or edible treat that customers can grab on the go. Often you will have young mothers coming through with their small children, so make it something that they can buy for them as well. The longer you can convince your customers to stick around, the more money they will spend.
