How To Handle The Mishaps That Happen To Your Luxury Watch

By:

So, you have worked long and hard to get where you're at right now. Your Rolex or other quality watch is a mere symbol and self-reward for your ongoing dedication and work ethic. When it breaks or has some other damage or defect, the last thing you want to do is forfeit it as a lost cause.

First of all, most luxury watches run on battery power. If you actually use your watch as a timekeeper, then you will probably notice when it fails to regulate itself and keep time as it has in the past. In general, this is due to a fading battery.

Because a Rolex has so many small and complex parts, it is not generally a good idea to attempt to replace this battery yourself. Instead, take your watch in to a watch repairman who specializes in Rolex repair. He will be able to make a simple battery exchange for you in no time at all.

One of the most damaging elements to non-waterproof watches--like the famous Swiss timepiece--is water seeping into it. Damage can occur if action is not taken quickly.

If you are unable to get to a repairman, you may attempt to handle the problem. Remove the watch's back by matching the correct die from your watch-opening kit to the groove on the back of your watch and carefully take the parts out one at a time. If you need to, take detailed notes about the assembly so that you will recall how to put each piece in its place.

Set them all on a clean, dry paper towel and allow them to rest in direct sunlight. While holding down the large watch piece, use a hair dryer to dry out the interior of the watch. All parts should remain in a dry environment overnight.

The following morning, check each part to see that it is thoroughly dry. If they all are, reassemble the watch. Give it a new battery, as moisture typically ruins batteries altogether.

Allow me to stress that this is not, of course, the ideal solution. Whenever possible, you should avoid making efforts to fix the watch yourself. This is a precious investment, and the last thing you want to do is turn it into junk by making the damage worse.

Many watch parts will survive moisture invasion for a few hours, so if you need to wait for a lunch break or the end of work to make it to a local Rolex repair specialist, you may be in luck.

Of course, the best solution is to take the utmost care to keep your Rolex in the best shape. But for those unexpected moments, don't panic--just contact your local watch repairman.
