How To Get The Right Traffic To Your Site

By:

"If you build it, they will come" might be alright for Field of Dreams, but it isn't the attitude to take if you want to generate effective traffic to your website.

While effective web copywriting is essential to get your site recognised by users and search engine spiders, there is a lot more you can do to get people on to it.

Articles, blogs and email newsletters can all lead people to your site, giving you the chance to impress them with your range of products.

Each method needs a different approach, but this doesn't mean you should choose to concentrate on one. They all complement each other and can generate more traffic when used together.

When writing articles, you should take a fairly authoritative tone. People read online articles for expert views and advice. While the occasional Field of Dreams joke in acceptable, you shouldn't go over the top with attempts at humour.

These articles can be sent to distribution sites and then republished on several websites. This is a highly effective method to attract traffic that might otherwise not find your site, as articles can contain links either in the main text or in the resource box.

A blog can be more conversational. This can be used to comment on new products or other news from within your business. You can also use it to talk about current affairs that are connected to your industry.

The advantage of blogs is that they can be quickly updated regularly, offering an easy and effective way to show the personality behind your business. People are more likely to buy when they feel a company can relate to them.

Email newsletters are used to ensure that previous customers remain loyal to your business. After all, if you send out emails to people who haven't signed up to a newsletter, they are likely to ignore it or flag it up as spam.

Used the right way, emails offer a great opportunity to talk to your customers one-to-one. Readers will prefer newsletters that address them by name rather than beginning "Dear Sir/Madam..."

A newsletter can also be used to publicise any discounts or other offers. This is one of the most effective ways to build up traffic, as everyone loves a bargain.

These are just three ways to generate traffic and engage with your potential customers.

Of course, getting all the traffic in the world won't help if your design and web copywriting are not good enough.

Once you have people on your site, you have to make sure that it gives them every reason to stay there, view your products and buy.
