How To Get The Most From Rabbit Cages

Kids nowadays are big on computer and the Internet that they forget about the beauty of connecting with nature. One good way of teaching kids that there is more to life than computer games and social networking is by letting them have pets. If dogs are too much to handle, let them start small with rabbits. And if you're going to do that, you'd have to know about your new pet's dwelling - let's start by knowing all about rabbit cages.

There are a host of rabbit cages to buy these days. Commonly, wood, metal and plastic tend to be the options, though many modern ones made from recycled materials are also available. There are also different ones for use inside and outside the home but, whichever is the choice, making a welcoming environment is key.

Rabbits are night creatures and are almost always restless at night and during the wee hours of the morning; thus, it is important that you always place new bunnies in rabbit cages to avoid them from turning your place topsy-turvy. Since the cage will be their home, it should be large enough to accommodate the animal's usually big movements.

Really, the cage should be at least four times the size that your rabbit will be when it grows up. Also important is dressing the cage to make it comfortable. If you have bought a metal cage for example, it will need a nice comfortable floor. Making it well ventilated will also make sure it doesn't get too hot. You should also make its bed comfortable, and make sure it has a nice place to go to the bathroom with a good litter box.

Wood shavings are a good and popular choice as a floor covering, but they cannot be any kind. For example, pine and cedar are not good; causing damage and illness in the livers of rabbits. Look for something made from harder woods; the pet store should be able to advise here.

The reason rabbits are very popular with kids is that they are very playful creatures. When they are let to run loose, rabbits may run around for hours without getting tired. Hence, it will be best to make rabbit cages as enjoyable as possible.

This will also work to your advantage as a well-stocked cage will keep your rabbit inside the cage even when the door is left accidentally open - this prevents your rabbits from turning your carpets and couches into their own form of entertainment. It is easy to keep a rabbit entertained. Just place lots of baby toys - the one that squeaks will be a good choice - in his cage. A simple baseboard can also provide your bunny with hours of entertainment. Of course, a vegetable or fruit snack will also make your bunny very happy.

Rabbits are great fun, and you are sure to have a great time with them. It is very likely that they will become very good friends with you, and greet you each time you say hello. But it is important to make sure that the rabbit cages are kept well and clean, or they will get unhappy and your parents will probably not be too pleased either!
