How To Get The Best From Your Clothes During And After Pregnancy

By:

Pregnancy can be a stressful and emotional time and not every pregnant woman feels she a glow and looks beautiful during pregnancy, whatever other people tell her and what she wears can make a great difference to how she feels.

These days working women carry on with their jobs until very late in pregnancy and this can bring its own dress dilemmas, when they need to look smart while at the same time feeling comfortable.

It is especially difficult to predict how much the bump will grow throughout the nine months and not everyone has the funds to be able to buy outfits to cover every stage so the temptation is to buy large to allow room for expansion.

However, there are ways to keep the budget under control while still looking good and feeling comfortable and confident and this includes taking care with the style and fabric chosen for outfits plus the help of a skilled dressmaker.

Some maternity clothes can be expensive and unless being shared among a circle of friends unlikely to justify the expense in relation to the time they have been worn for. Giving up and making do with loose t-shirts and leggings is not always an appropriate solution, especially when a woman needs to look smart or has a special occasion to attend.

It is better to wait until the bulge starts to show before buying any maternity wear or having it made because it is easy to over-compensate and buy too large. On the other hand if a woman finds an outfit that proves to be too large, it can be altered or alternatively it will provide ample spare material for a dressmakerto have the option to re-model it once the pregnancy is over.

To be comfortable fabrics like jersey with some give and stretch are best and also have the advantage of draping well. Dresses or long tops to the mid thigh are very useful. But it takes a good deal of skill to make alterations to a stretch or knitted fabric.

Many women will find that their bus size goes up during pregnancy and remains larger than their normal size for some months afterwards. Empire and baby doll styles are very flattering when this happens, but beware too fussy trimmings and ruching. Elasticated and drawstring waistbands are also helpful for coping with an expanding waistline.

Most women find that they have gone up a dress size following their baby's birth and by that time they may also be heartily sick of the clothes they have been wearing throughout their pregnancy. Choosing a style that could be revamped with some dress alteration after the baby has arrived can help to save money.
