How To Get More Done With Intense Focus

By:

Are you easily distracted? You want to get important projects done but distractions keep you from reaching your goal. I know how easy it is to lose focus and find yourself working hard running in circles but projects left incomplete.

What distractions plague you everyday? Constantly checking email, is there anything so important that you need to check email every half hour Interruption of a friendly visitors at your door. If you work from home maybe its doing a load of laundry in the middle of your workday or allowing a 30 minute lunch break to extend two hours. I dont know if you believe this but I use to think the busier I was the more I was getting accomplished yikes. Today I call that crazy thinking. It wasnt until I figured out how to control my distractions was I able to put intense focus and clarity to work for me.

Try these easy techniques to get your focus mojo working:

1. Get rid of distractions. Are tweeting all day for business, how about friending new facebook friends, responding to email as soon as they come in instead of a set schedule. If youre doing any or all of these time sappers your day will pass with little or no productive business building activities.

Turn off your email, unless you absolutely need it, close your internet browser, let the phone go to voicemail, and let the family know your hours of operation. You are running a business and if you were working at a 9 - 5 JOB your family would follow certain rules, so why not apply those rules while building your own business.

2. Be consistent. Be clear with yourself about what you need to do. Be honest about how much time it will take to complete the job. Be committed to yourself and take consistent action. In essence it takes clear, honest and consistent action.

There will be some tasks you wont enjoy but only you can decide to love everything you do. A sense of commitment to your goal will make the distractions the come from lack of consistency a thing of the past.

3. Use a list. Now I know you heard this hundreds of times before. I use to think I could keep the list in my head. But I promise you there is something about writing it down and checking off the tasks as they get completed that makes you even more committed to your project. Without a list you have no real way to determine if you stayed on track. Yes youll probably get things done but I can guarantee you will at least double your productivity with a list.

4. WooHoo! Reward yourself for a job well done. The truth is you will find the project much easier to get done then you believed possible especially if you reward yourself for a job well done. If the project has many components or sections then reward yourself after completing each component. The rewards can be simple. For instance sometimes I give myself the afternoon off without any feeling of guilt that I should be working on a project. Be kind to yourself.

Life if full of distractions. Make it a habit to focus and reap the reward!
