How To Get Marijuana: My First Experience

By:

There was a time in my life when I would never have contemplated how to get medical marijuana for any reason. As I learned more about the affects of prescription narcotics on my body, I wanted to know more about how to get medical marijuana as treatment for migraines that I had been dealing with since childhood. I did not really know how to get started until I overheard two of my coworkers discussing it at work.

The topic of medical marijuana came up during our lunch break. Two of my coworkers were discussing a story in the newspaper about how medical marijuana had become so popular over the last few years. I listened as one of them explained how her cousin had a prescription for medical marijuana and it seemed to be giving him relief for the chronic pain in his lower back. I told her about my situation and asked if her cousin could tell me more about how to get medical marijuana for myself. She put me in touch with her cousin and he explained, step by step, everything I needed to know about how to get medical marijuana.

Thankfully I live in a state where marijuana is legal for medical use. Had I not, my research into how to get medical marijuana would have been short lived. Unfortunately for most Americans, they will not be able to get medical marijuana as treatment for a long time. There are only 16 states that currently allow you to get medical marijuana for an approved medical condition. As the movement toward legalization progresses more states will undoubtedly make marijuana an option and knowing how to get medical marijuana will become common knowledge.

The cousin also explained how fortunate I was because some states also require a patient to have approval from the health department before they can be allowed to get medical marijuana. It amounts to a check by this government agency to ensure that you are in fact a legitimate patient who has been recommended for the use of medical marijuana. There is extra paperwork to fill out though and takes several weeks for the process to unwind. Since our state did not require this verification, I could save some time.

Before knowing how to get medical marijuana was necessary, I would have to go through a relatively easy approval process. I started by getting an evaluation from a certified marijuana doctor that my coworkers cousin had recommended. He would get a discount on his next appointment for the referral and I would be shown how to get the medical marijuana I needed. It seemed like an even trade to me. I brought copies of my medical file along with me to the evaluation as well as a state I.D. Both were requirements. We discussed my medical history and the effects of marijuana on my body before the doctor wrote out a recommendation which amounted to a prescription for medical marijuana.

The education process did not end there, however. Now that I had my recommendation I still needed to know how it could be used to get medical marijuana. The problem is that doctors in most states are barred from telling you how to get medical marijuana. That does not make much sense to me but, fortunately, my coworkers cousin was able to assist me with this part of the process as well.

I called him after the appointment with the doctor and told him how the process went smoothly. After thanking him for the information, I told him that I still had no idea how to get medical marijuana in place of my medication. With a laugh he explained that from here out knowing how to get medical marijuana would be the least of my problems.

He offered to pick me up later that day and show me the best place to get medical marijuana that he was aware of. I was ready when he arrived and eager to go to a dispensary for the first time. I neatly folded up the recommendation the doctor gave me and slid my I.D. inside of it. I would have to show them both at the dispensary and I would not be allowed to get medical marijuana without them.

We arrived at his dispensary of choice and a security guard was on hand to verify my paperwork. Despite how easy it is to get a recommendation, some individuals still try to use false documents to get medical marijuana. The problem comes when they are authenticated with the doctor who issued them. Since my paperwork was legitimate the verification did not take long.

I stepped up to the counter and was quickly told the difference in the types of marijuana strains available. Some were better for glaucoma, some were better for anxiety, and others were better for the migraines which caused me pain. I even learned how to get the most out of my new medicine without suffering undue harm to my body. The guy behind the counter told me that if I used a vaporizer I could get the most out of my medical marijuana without inhaling all of the negative agents in the smoke.

I bought a few grams of a brand that was recommended to me and my coworkers cousin decided to get some for him. It was a very simple transaction. I paid with my credit card, thanked the clerk and off we went to medicate.

Who knew that finding out how to get medical marijuana to treat my migraines could be so easy. Before I embarked on the journey, I had expected the process to be far more intrusive and time consuming. I thought that there would be a maze of paperwork to file and refile just to get turned down in the end. In reality learning how to get medical marijuana as alternative to the traditional pain medication I was currently taking was one of the easiest things I have ever done.
