How To Get Discount Tickets For The San Diego Zoo

By:

An excellent trip for any family is a visit to the San Diego Zoo. The zoo is one of the largest in the world and currently houses over 4,000 animals and more than 800 species. It is one of the only zoos in the world that is home to the giant panda that is on display.

The San Diego Zoo is privately owned and run by the nonprofit Zoological Society of San Diego. It spans over 107 acres of parkland that is leased from the City of San Diego, giving the city ownership of all animals, equipment and assets.

The San Diego Zoo got its unofficial start in 1915 by adopting animals that were abandoned from exotic animal exhibitions after their popularity wore off. The Panama California Exposition by Dr. Harry M. Wegeforth officially founded the zoo in 1916 and initially partnered with the New York Zoological Society that ran the world famous Bronx Zoo. The zoo was moved on to a piece of land in Balboa Park in 1921 where it remains to this day.

Visitors can tour the zoo 7 days a week, including holidays, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. A one day pass ticket is $40 for adults and $30 for children ages 3 to 11. Discount tickets can be found by searching online for ticket discounts.

San Diego visitor centers and hotels also frequently offer discounted passes to the zoo. Check with your concierge about group rates or discounts. In fact, many hotels partner with the zoo to offer discounted rates in exchange for staying with them.

Another great way to find San Diego Zoo discount tickets is by checking with local non-profit organizations. The zoo frequently partners with animal advocacy and environmental groups to do fundraisers, where tickets are offered at a discounted price and a portion of the proceeds go to help the animals.

Annual zoo membership is another great way to save money. For instance, two adults from the same household can become members for $96 and they will be admitted free for the entire year along with two free guest passes. A single adult membership is $75. The Koala Club for Kids membership for children ages 3-11 is $35 and for those age 12-17 is $39. Membership is not only a way to save money, but it also provides the zoo with funds that it can count on.

Wherever you get your San Diego Zoo discount tickets they are sure to be worth the money to experience this wonderful attraction.
