How To Get Cozy During The Cool-down

By:

It's August in the desert, so when I left my cousin's home after a nice family dinner before the sun had gone down, I was shocked to find myself cold. Whoa (so much for global warming, right?)! And I know from experience that it is only going to get colder as we rapidly make our way toward autumn.

Now, I am admittedly something of a homebody, so if there is anyone that knows how to sit back and enjoy a warm evening in, it's me! So as you begin considering ways to get snug during the impending cool-down, let me share some of my favorite things (even though I'm not Maria Von Trapp).

Of course, there is the traditional novel-in-front-of-the-fire pastime, which I give two thumbs way up. Keep your inside warmed with gourmet hot chocolate whenever the urge strikes you (it is healthier for you than most coffee and helps to relax you instead of making you high strung as the caffeine in a latte will).

But consider switching up your beverages, too. If you can't easily access some hot apple cider with whipped cream and caramel sauce, think about just heating up some apple juice. Studies have actually shown this to be very soothing in the evening.

Think about quilting or crocheting your own blanket. If you don't have the knowledge or skills to do so yourself, engage a friend or family member to teach you and turn it into a project to complete for wintertime.

If a blanket or quilt is too much for you, scale it down to a beanie, scarf, or mittens. A close friend of mine made her very first crocheting project the making of a hat which turned out perfectly! She was able to wear it right away. It will give you a great sense of pride in yourself plus add to your winter wardrobe.

Pamper yourself to get warm. Take a hot bath after trekking in the snow to reach your faraway parking space. Once you are finished, slip into some luxury pajamas that will keep your nice and warm. Then get settled onto the couch with a few blankets and watch your favorite movie or read a book.

You know, there's no reason why you can't use some of these things to get comfortable and cozy any time of year. After all, warmth--both internal and external--helps to release tension from the muscles.

There are few things I like better than slipping into a set of luxurious pajamas and enjoying a cup of cocoa just because! Isn't it about time you tried it, too?
