How To Gain Total Control Of Your Time, Money...and Life!

It's a break-neck world these days. It seems that time flies by ever faster. And, because of the complexity of "modern life" it seems that far less get's done! Information overload seems to be the norm.

I remember four years ago when I initially started Marketing online the learning curve was immense. I know all the "Guru's" "sell you" (and isn't that copy compelling?) that a $47 eBook will solve all your problems and that you'll be earning $106,297 (it always ends in a "7") a month next week (oh, and don't forget the extra 7 cents)...But if we are frank you and I both know this just isn't right.

In these dire recessionary times I am now more convinced than ever that moving your business online is the solution. I recently read in the London Telegraph, hidden away in a dark corner amongst all the doom and gloom that online sales increased by 30% in 2008.

I have a buddy who works for a frontline UK clothes retailer. He told me that sales for his company up until the third quarter of 2008 were 9% lower on the high street but 15% up online. It's undeniably the place to be.

But...Internet marketing is similar to any other business. It's exactly that, a business and not a get rich quick scheme. You have to understand how all the different areas of Internet marketing work. And there are masses of various techniques and tools that need to be learnt, in some depth, before you can ensure your success.

So, when I made "that quality decision" online was where I was going, how did I manage to "inwardly digest" all of the information I needed?

Here are few guidelines that I hope will help you beat that depressing sensation of "information overload" and the consequent "paralysis of analysis" that comes with it.

1. Choose a day that you believe is going to be busy (aren't they all?) and as you work through the day record down all of the tasks you get finished and the time taken to complete them.

2. Divide the tasks up into generic task groupings. So, for example, all phone calls put in a phone calls list, all emails put in an emails list (you should break down tasks into their most fundamental actions).

3. Work out what percentage of your day was spent working in each task group.

4. Divide your day into "micro days" calculated on the amount of time you need to finish each function daily.

5. Make sure you include every "to do" task in the relevant micro day.

6. If you don't finish all of the tasks in a given "micro day" the task is held over until the next day. Put the most urgent items at the top of each micro day.

One alternative that I have recognized to be very successful is to have the start of the day given over to the day's most significant task and not to do anything else until that is complete. This also works depending on the nature of the task.

However, one great extra tip is...Make sure that checking email has it's own slot and it is NOT the first thing you do in the day...Otherwise it will consume your day! Keep that task to the correct "micro day" otherwise your entire day will be gone before you know it! You know this is true!

I built this method when I first went online and was under incredible financial duress. It was quite remarkable how gaining total control over my time and money permitted me to turn around a swiftly failing business...And life in hardly any time at all.
