How To Gain Confidence - Destroy Limiting Beliefs

Most of us live our lives at the mercy of the world around us. Something good happens, and we feel good. Something bad happens and we feel rotten.

But the fact is, even with the same event, two people will respond in different ways. On a rainy day, you might feel depressed, while someone else feels cosy and content. What accounts for the difference? It is your beliefs.

When we think of beliefs, we think of religious and political beliefs, but the fact is we have beliefs about all situations and everything in our life.

If you feel low in confidence, you can be sure that you have low confidence beliefs. If you are high in confidence, then your beliefs are empowering and confident.

If you believe something you will always look for evidence that it is true. You will always look for things that support your view of the world. If you feel you are confident, then you will be sure to look for evidence of your high standing and self-assurance.

For instance, a person with belief in their self-worth, will walk into a room and feel that people like them and want to talk to them. A person with low self-worth will feel insecure, imagine the worst and try and avoid the situation.

The interesting thing about beliefs is that they very often completely unrelated to reality. Why do you feel low in confidence? If you believe that you are not worthy, what are you basing that on? Some of us base these opinions on things that happened when we were young. We base it on one bad experience and generalise it to apply to the rest of our life.

If you want to build self-esteem, you need to be more discerning about the beliefs that you hold about yourself. You need to evaluate the belief. Does it help or hinder you? Is it based on good evidence? If there is no evidence for it and it doesnt support your development and happiness, then get rid of it.

Your beliefs are the most important determinant of your confidence. Pay attention to what your beliefs are and if necessary change them. This will do more to build self-esteem than anything else.
