How To Gain A Better Recollection Of Your Dreams

How To Gain A Better Recollection Of Your Dreams

By:

Now, I am going to share something with you, but I don't want you to label me as a hippy or a superstitious clod because I honestly don't consider myself either of those. With that being said, I want to tell you that there is great power to be found in remembering and correctly interpreting your dreams.

Yes, I mean the dreams you have at night--even the ones that seem to make absolutely zero sense. Or maybe you are the type that rarely, if ever, recalls a single dream once your alarm has gone off in the morning.

But don't allow that to discourage you. Retaining and understanding your dreams is a great skill that takes time to master. If you have the persistence and desire to cultivate it, you will be able to unlock new truths about yourself and your life that were far beyond reach before.

To begin, you will first want to induce a more relaxing night's sleep. There are many, many ways to do this, so let me provide some general guidelines.

Wind down your evening's activities between a half hour and an hour before you plan to retire. This includes work, studying, homework, exercise, or even reading. Try to relax your muscles by stretching out or taking a warm bath. Once you are actually in bed, continue this process by mentally loosening all of your muscles, particularly the ones in your face.

If you are able, wake up naturally. This might mean keeping the blinds open so that the sunlight will wake you rather than a jarring alarm that reminds you everything you have to get done during the morning hours.

If you do need to use an alarm, set it a few minutes early so you have time to recall, record, and reflect upon your dreams before beginning your day.

When you awake, lie still in bed. Many times, I have initially thought I could not remember any dreams I had the previous night, but after some reflection, I recalled a few images or even had full visions of what had played in my mind.

Keep a journal or a tape recorder in an easily accessible spot beside your bed--on your nightstand, for instance. I have a beautiful leather journal which I use specifically to jot down what I remember from dreaming the night before.

Writing down your dreams will not only allow you to remember, but they will be there for later reference as you continue to reflect on a dream's meaning in the following days (or even months or years).

Never underestimate a dream's ability to guide you. It might sound kooky at first, but as you try to recall your dreams, you will eventually be able to gain greater understanding about the whole of your life. So start this very night.
