How To Find The Right Moving Boxes For Your College Move

By:

Alright, you are so close to making it to college. All that is left to do is pack up and move all of your stuff. Naturally, you try to get your hands on the cheapest and most affordable moving boxes without regard to their size or quality. You think, "I can cram all of my stuff in these boxes." While this is completely normal during the excitement of a move out, make sure to stop and think about the supplies that you will use for your move. Otherwise, you could potentially damage yourself or your belongings and waste more time and energy during the move than is necessary. Here, I will show you some basic guidelines that you should following in picking out your moving boxes.

The first rule of thumb is to keep your packing supplies list as simple as possible. This is for a couple of reasons. Generally, the more you buy of one item, the cheaper it will be. Also, you want to have predictable sized boxes that will fit nicely together whenever you are packing your truck or a trailer. This could potentially save you a few hours in the long run. So, for your move, all you really need are small, medium, large/x-large moving boxes, some tape, and some bubble wrap for your fragile items.

The second rule is to pack the smaller and denser items in small to medium sized boxes and larger, lightweight items in large boxes. Quality small and medium boxes usually hold up to 65 pounds. So, cram all of your small belongings into here. Just make sure that you can actually move the box after you have packed it! For example, you most likely will want to pack your books in a small box. You should only pack 35 pounds in a large box on the other hand. If you pack more, the structure of the box can break down and you could break your items or yourself! So, keep your large, but lightweight items in the large boxes. It will definitely be worth the extra dollar or so to pack these right!

As far as protection goes, I recommend bubblewrap. Bubblewrap is lightweight and limits the movement of your belongings whenever they are in transit. So, if you accidentally drop a box with fragile items in it, they will most likely stay intact. With packing paper, there probably would not be enough cushion to protect the fall. Whenever you are packing your fragile items, make sure that the bubble wrap is barely grazing the walls of the box. So, either pack all fragile items together in bubble wrap, or wrap one fragile item with a lot of bubble wrap to make this happen. The reason you want the bubble wrap grazing the wall is so that motion will be limited with the items in the box (and thus, prevent damage).

Follow these rules and you will have a successful move to college! Then, you can let the excitement out and start making college stories that will last you a lifetime!
