When applying to colleges, scholarship money is often an important consideration and a necessity for many people to attend and further their schooling. It takes extra energy, but applying for some of the less known sources of funds can give you additional foundations that you never considered before. Some of these involve odd skills, particular talents or special niches. Others are related to specific family backgrounds and interest groups. Here are a few illustrations to guide you in this direction for additional funding sources:
1) If you are a milk drinker and have athletic ability, writing an essay on the benefits you receive by drinking milk and attaching a photo of yourself with a milk mustache can award you some college money. In 2010, 25 students with athletic skills each won a $7,000 scholarship and placement of themselves with their photograph having a milk mustache for the USA Today newspaper publication.
2) There are a number of scholarships based on height. For instance, you can receive a scholarship from the Tall Club for being over five feet ten inches as a woman or over six feet and two inches if you are a man. There are also grants for being short. The Little People of America Group offers this award both for those with dwarfism and for individuals under foot feet ten inches in height. An essay and three letters of recommendation are required. It can be helpful to also be a member of the Little People of America as well.
3) Are you a skateboarder? If so you may be eligible for the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship. There are four total scholarships and one person will win a $5000 scholarship. The remaining three students will each get one thousand dollars. It is named after Patrick who was an honor student and passed away. He did much to promote skateboard activities in the US.
4) Potato lovers have a scholarship fund available. It is sponsored by Potato Industry Scholarship. One's focus at college has to be related to this food.
5) Then there are also the twin scholarships. Obviously, this scholarship is for twins. For those who will be studying at George Washington University, a 50% off on tuition fee can be availed by the other twin. In Sterling College in Kansas, a 50% off on both twins can be availed.
There are a lot of scholarships out there. It doesnt mean that if you dont have any athletic ability or you do not have the highest grades, you cant pursue your studies anymore. By writing out your various interests, you can find relevant scholarships and add them to your list of applications.
