You can purchase an Ontario Corporate Profile Report. This report is sometimes called an Ontario corporate search or an Ontario company search.

You will not be able to determine information about an Ontario sole proprietorship or Ontario partnership from this type of report. If you wish to find out information about a partnership or a sole proprietorship you need to obtain an Ontario Business Name Search.

The Corporate Profile Report will tell you the address of the registered office of an Ontario company, the names and addresses for service of all directors, the names, titles and address for service of all officers, and all filings done on behalf of the company such as articles of amendment, notices of change of addresses or directors.

All provinces and territories in Canada offer these kinds of searches but every jurisdiction calls them different things and provides slightly different information.

You will not be able to find out the names of the owners of an Ontario company because this is not recorded on the public record and is considered private. It is common with small businesses for the owner or shareholder of a company to also be the director and officer in cases where there is only one individual showing on the Ontario Corporate Profile Report. In the cases where there are lots of directors and officers, this would probably not be the case.

The Corporate Profile Report has a box on it that says whether or not the Ontario company has any business names registered against it however those names will not be listed. A Business Names Report will need to be ordered if there is a yes recorded on the Corporate Profile Report in order for you to determine what those business names are.

If the company has had other names in the past you will be able to find out all of those names on the Ontario Corporate Profile Report.
