The Right Time To Expand

Due to lack of experience,many terran players lack the knowledge of when to expand their economy.It is almost a certainty a beginner will always wall himself in his main base and build up his forces,usually trying to get mass battle-cruisers and other high tech mecha.This is wrong way to play starcraft 2 as a terran.

Sure,big battles with massive armies are fun,but you want to be a smart player,and defeat your opponent thru map control and unit composition.

If you are walling off in your main base and set up the greatest fortress you will always lose.Resources are limited in any mineral field or geysers ,so while you use your limited resources to turtle the whole game,your adversary that is constantly expanding can eliminate you simply by hurling unlimited waves of units at you.

There are two things you must do in order to steer clear of such mistakes,the first is to consistently stress your adversary,never provide him the freedom and feeling of map control.Aggressive players in Starcraft 2 are victorious players
The other thing to make note of is economy ,its one of several vital aspects of the game.You should always keep your economy one step well before him.

If you are putting frequent pressure on him and he is taking a defending stance that may be tough to break,you have to match his economy .


The Way To Expand As A Terran

Now,if you're a new comer to the game,chances are when you expand you are taking your SCV and order it to construct your second Command Center right on the mineral field you want to expand to.

Do not execute this.

The top strength a terran gamer has contrary to the other races is his mobility and flexibility.

Whenever you are expanding there's always the danger of assaults against your scv and com center,but as a terran you are able to construct your command center wherever on the map and just fly it in places you want to expand.

In case you are expanding in your natural expansion ( the nearest to the main) you always build an Orbital Command. A planetary fortress is beneficial only in far expanses ,where its tough to reach it soon enough to prevent an attack.

Take into account that you have to guard your natural expansion at the same time. Tend not to devote all of your resources in protecting only your primary ramp.Plant some siege tanks inside your natural expansion aswell.
