How To Evaluate E-learning Software

By: Terry Fitzroy

Once you have made a decision about the best e-learning software for your company you need to evaluate for certain elements. Whether it's LMS, LCMS, or CMS each element should be evaluated so here's how to evaluate e-learning software.

The fanciest e-learning software won't be of any value to your company if you don't do what you thought it would. The software needs to provide you with critical solutions.

You need to consider things such as what happens if the company goes bankrupt. What would happen if you needed technical support? Where will your support come from? What do you do if you find out the software is not compatible with your LMS? These are all questions that are very reasonable to ask before investing in e-learning software.

Accessibility - Your e-learning courses need to be accessible by all of the end users so you need to check what your e-learning publishes in ... is it to CD ROM, DVD, or HTML. If all of your end users don't have access to the internet you will have to publish your courses to CD ROM for those individuals but to do that you will need to have purchased the software with CD ROM publishing options. Make sure the e-learning software and licensing you purchase is adequate for what you will need.

Compatibility - You need to choose e-learning software that is compatible with all of your other software that you want to use with the e-learning courses. Therefore, if you use LMS you need to have the authoring tool that will give you integration that is seamless.

Maintainability - You need to ensure that your e-learning software will be easy to maintain over a long period of time so that you can add new users if you need to, change the content if you have to. You want to make certain you are licensed to receive all service packs.

Usability - this is one of the most important things to consider when purchasing your e-learning software. Your instructors are looking for tools that make it easy to create content so make sure that you are choosing e-learning software that meets these requirements. It's important to always purchase intuitive software.

E-learning has been around just about 10 years. It started as a radical idea that's true effectiveness has yet to be proven to what it is today, which would be considered mainstream. In fact e-learning has become the core to many modern business plans and services offered by universities.

E-learning has evolved with the World Wide Web, as have many other businesses and software programs. In addition, just when he world thought e-learning had been figured out it changed once again.

Today's e-learning is much more realistic and the consumer demands much more therefore it provide much more. Today's e-learning is far more flexible and sophisticated than that of just a decade ago. Never the less you still must make certain that it provides you with what you need to interface with both your technical and human elements.

Now that you know how to evaluate e-learning software there really is no reason why you can't make the right choice for your company's situation.
