How To Eat Right Following Fat Reduction Surgery

There are patients who have undergone fat reduction surgery who think that they can eat whatever they want and not gain weight after surgery. Even though fat cells that are removed never grow back in that area, fat cells in other areas can become enlarged with through bad eating habits, resulting in fat those areas. It is never a good idea to over indulge in high fat foods at any time, because high fat foods not only cause weight and fat gain, but is also bad for your heart, arteries and other organs.

Liposuction and tummy tucks remove fat cells permanently from the body. Adults do not grow more fat cells in their lifetime, so once the fat cells are removed they do not grow back. Patients are given that second chance to start a healthy diet and exercise routine and to live a healthy lifestyle. It is a great starting point to make the changes necessary in your life to live longer and look better.

After healing, a patient should eat a diet low in fat, choose complex carbohydrates versus simple sugars, and consume lean proteins such as turkey, chicken, beans and eggs. Performing exercise that elevates the heart rate for at least thirty minutes should be done at least three times per week. Vitamins, minerals and probiotics are great ideas ways to keep healthy.

Tummy tuck surgery is performed under general anesthesia where an incision is made from hip to hip across the abdomen and above the pelvic bone is made. The skin and fat are lifted so the surgeon and correct any sagging muscle by stitching it tightly together to create a firm base. The skin is then stretched and pulled tightly over the abdomen to the incision point. The excess skin and fat are cut off and the flap is stitched back to the incision point. Generally the incision is below the line of jeans, pants, bathing suits and underwear. The surgery can be done on an outpatient basis sometimes, for healthy patients.

Patients are given a compression garment to wear for three to five days to prevent swelling and a prescribed pain medication is offered. Strict adherence to post operative instructions is needed during the healing process and walking daily helps speed recovery. Any notable change or ill feeling should be reported to your doctor. Most patients are pleased with the results and the change in the way they feel.
