How To Dye A Carpet

By:

Most every home has some kind of carpet in it, whether it is a large one that goes wall to wall or a small one that can be moved around the room. Rugs can make a home more comfortable and warm as opposed to having all hardwood floors. However, with rugs comes a lot of maintenance to keep them looking their best. It is important to have rugs that look nice because they are one of the main focal points of a room along with the walls and large pieces of furniture.

One way to maintain your rugs is to keep them clean. Vacuuming them on a regular basis will remove the dust and dirt that will accumulate on them and will also remove the allergens. At least once a year, it is a good idea to have your rugs steam cleaned. This will keep them fresh as well as brightening up their appearance. However, over time, it is inevitable that the colors in your carpet will begin to fade. This is when you can choose to dye your rugs.

Before beginning the actual process, be sure to purchase a dye that was made specifically for the material that your rug is made from. Also, choose a color that is a bit darker than the original color of the carpet. This will give you an elegant finished look.

The first step you need to take is to prepare the room that the carpet is in. Remove all of the furniture from the room and cover the walls with plastic to protect them from the dye. You also want to be sure to wear gloves when dyeing the carpet.

The next step you want to take is to be certain that the carpet is clean. Give it a good vacuuming and clean your carpet with a shampoo. Follow the instructions on the bottle of carpet shampoo and allow the carpet to dry thoroughly. Having a clean carpet will help the dye to take hold into the carpet.

Mix the dye by closely following the instructions that are on the bottle. It is best to use a spray bottle to apply the dye because it will give you an even coating. Once you think you have the correct mixture, spray the dye onto an extra piece of rug to make sure that the color is exactly what you want.

If everything looks the way you want, begin spraying the carpet dyeing one small area at a time. Use a scrub brush to work the color into the fibers. This will make sure that your carpet is covered evenly with the dye. Finally, allow your carpet to dry out thoroughly and you are finished.
