How To Dress Up Plain Apparel For The Holidays

Not everyone wants to wear a sweatshirt of sweater that has a huge Santa Clause or Christmas tree on the front to show their holiday spirit at Christmas time. This does not mean that you can not wear something more understated to show that you are not a Scrooge just waiting for the whole episode to be over. Some people do like to go all out and wear the hats and sweaters and anything else festive for the occasion they can find, and this is fine for them. For those that like a little less, there are simple touches you can make that will dress up your everyday solid clothes.

For guys it can sometimes be just annoying when their wives or girlfriends want to deck them out like the Christmas tree in the living room, so if they will take their own initiative and dress themselves, they might be able to escape a more attention getting ensemble. A plain white dress shirt with a Christmas tie is a great holiday look for men. It is great for the office parties and family gatherings as well. A solid color pair of slacks in black or blue is perfect. Even a white, red, or green turtle neck can have the feel of Christmas without being over the top.

For ladies there is a little more versatility available. A plain white or red blouse, turtleneck or sweater can be adorned with a simple Christmas brooch or scarf and it will look elegant and classic. A solid red dress or winter white dress can look nice with a scarf or brooch as well. These kinds of outfits are great when you are in a hurry as you often can be during the holidays.

Black boots and belt with a dash of Christmas colors in the clothing is always a festive look for ladies during the holidays as well. Even outer wear like coats, gloves and hats can look festive when the colors are right. Just because you want to show your Christmas spirit does not mean you have to look like a door wreath, so remember to keep it simple if that is what you like and you will feel the holiday spirit just as much as those that wear the gaudy sweaters and Santa suits. Save the brightest decorations for your tree and gift wrapping, you do not necessarily have to wear it.
