How To Download Podcasts And Vodcasts With Itunes

Hi Gizmos,

I want to download some ABC TV programs as podcasts on this link http://www.abc.net.au/tv/fora/rss.htm#podcasts to my iTunes.

Im trying to get these things in a Windows media format so I can watch them on Windows media player. I must be doing something wrong, because Im not getting very far trying to do it myself. Can you translate how to do this from tech-speak to English?

Good to hear from you again. Youre not alone. A lot of people get lost in this process, and the technical advice can be worse than the problem sometimes.

We can see why youre so keen. The ABC FORA TV show podcasts format is a very useful way of staying current with the latest news and views. Theres one thing to consider, however- Good high quality podcasts can be huge downloads. These ABC videos average 200-300MB each, so they may take a while if you have an ADSL2+ connection.

iTunes can help manage your podcasts. Check out the ABC page and look for two big addresses ending in .xml. These link to a podcast subscription feed (If you need more info on how these feeds operate, have a look at http://tinyurl.com/699sor).

Subscription feeds update whenever a new podcast or vodcast (video-on-demand podcast)comes onstream. Copy the URL by selecting it all and pressing CTRL + C.
Now, open iTunes and hit Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast.
Paste (Ctrl+V) the copied URL in the popup box and press OK.
iTunes will open the podcast directory so you can download all episodes theyve released. Normally, iTunes will only download the current episode. If you want other episodes, hit the Settings button. For particular episodes you get these using the Get button on each title.
To watch, all you need to do is select, double click it and play.
