If you are a beginner in creating jewelry, you may want to try making fimo beads. These beads are handcrafted from polymer clay. The materials needed in creating this masterpiece are different colors of polymer clay, a cake tin that is empty inside, varnish or different colors of paint, flat tray or any type of flat container, sand paper, molds for decorative beads and crocheting needle, knitting needle and tooth pick.

STEPS IN MAKING FIMO BEADS

Pick the color of polymer clay that you want to use. Carefully knead the polymer clay with your hands to make it more malleable. You can also remove air bubbles inside the clay in this way.

You can use also clays with two different colors to create an interesting color. Chop it equally into small size portions. Make sure that the clay balls are the size of a coin. Mold each clay ball cylindrically with the palm of your hand.

The clay should have vein designs from your palms. You can do it all over again if you are not happy with the vein patterns. Use the molds to create animal, butterfly, heart or any shapes that you want or you can just shape it with your hands.

Pass a crocheting or knitting needle or a toothpick in the middle of the beads so that you will not have a difficulty in threading them later. Place it on a hollow tin so that it can properly dry and it will help it keep its shape. Cook it at a temperature of 2,650 Fahrenheit or 1,300 Celsius.

Remember to hang the beads while baking it. It takes around thirty minutes for it to be cook properly. Let the beads cool for some time. Thread them slowly. Keep the remaining beads in a tray. Use varnish or paint for additional protection. Use a bead roller or knife to create a variety of shapes.

Remember to wear safety goggles and face mask especially when baking it to avoid unsafe exposure to plasticizers. You now have your very own Fimo bead jewelry.
