How To Cope With Toddler Tantrums

By:

At the age of about 3 years, when a toddler is in the development stage between being a baby and a child, there is a phase where they can become easily frustrated. If they do not get their way, what they want or things just don't work out how they'd hoped this can cause them to explode in a fit of rage that can be difficult to control. The child loses any ability to listen to what your saying or be reasoned with. Nearly all toddlers have a tantrum at one time or another but some have them more than others. When a tantrum occurs it can cause you, as the parent, a great deal of discomfort, especially if your child has the tantrum in a public place, such as a shopping mall or at a friend's house. It can be scary to see your child so angry and out of control.

How do you deal with your child's tantrums?

Firstly it is very important not to give in to their tantrum. If they get their way it will only encourage them to behave in the manner next time and a habit will be formed that will be difficult to break.

It is important to stay calm and not lose your temper. If you respond with a tantrum also, this will not get you anywhere and the situation will worsen.

Don't try to reason with your toddler, they have gone beyond reasoning and will not listen.

Try and leave them somewhere on their own where they are safe from harm to themselves and others. This may help to calm them down as they realize their behavior is not getting them attention.

Sometimes holding them firmly can help, some toddlers respond well to this whereas for others it can make it worse. I hope these tips have been useful and help you to deal successfully with your child's tantrums.
