How To Compile A Photo Book

By:

Creating a photo book is a great way of showing someone you care, and an even greater way of keeping memories. Photo books are ideal gifts for anyone who is moving away, or having a change of lifestyle. It acts as a connection to the past, and will always be a treasured gift. You don't need to be a top photographer to put together such an amazing gift for someone, just a keen eye for a good photo. Here are some top tips for selecting, choosing and arranging photographs to be included in a photo book.

Pick photographs that represent a special moment. Images serve as a reminder, so a picture of a daisy in a field could trigger memories of a wonderful summertime walk, maybe a moment when a proposal was made. If there are no pictures of a particular event that you want to document in a keepsake photo book, pick an image that is a reminder of the moment.

Don't dismiss out of focus or badly framed shots. There is a little saying in the art world that some fine works are the result of 'happy accidents', so those blurry shots can sometimes be worth including. Images with trailing lights or those that are over exposed can be a welcome inclusion amongst landscape shots and portraits.

Break the time line by mixing up photos from different events. Having a photo book full of photos in chronological order can be a predictable experience, so break the rules and have pictures from different locations next to one another with a variety of subjects to keep the album interesting. It is also good to mix up the types of shots included too, so have images with dynamic angles next to more traditional subject centred shots.

It can be tempting to include every picture taken at a party, day out or holiday, but doing this will only lead to monotony. Pick a select few based on how interesting he picture is or who is included in the picture. As a keepsake, the photo book should document a range of events that will be a reminder of happy times, family and friends, so make sure that everyone is included but avoid compiling what could be converted into an animation.

Finally, ensure that your photo book includes some text. Albums are usually passed down the family line, and there will be future generation who will want to know who the people in the pictures are, what the date was and where the picture was taken. You can go one step further and write messages that bring back memories of the atmosphere, such as funny things that people said or did.
