The technology of air filtering has significantly improved through the years due to developments in aerodynamics and air-compressor parts in gas turbines. And because of this, air filtering technology not only finds its way in structures but in automobiles as well. The cabin air filter for autos looks like a series of pleated papers placed outside the vehicle's passenger compartment. Most of these filters are rectangular shape which is similar to that of a combustion air filter.
If you own a newer model of any vehicle, then your car has probably one of these cabin air filters. Car filters are responsible from preventing pollutant and other allergens from penetrating inside the car. Hence, this air filter functions like a human nose, which extracts and filters any external material that might come in contact with the car and passengers. Such filter then needs to be cleaned once in a while to remove all accumulated dirt in it.
How to Replace a Cabin Air Filter
The first step is to open the glove box of a
used Toyota Sienna and empty its contents. Then locate a screw at the right side of the glove box which goes through the damper arm and remove it with a screw driver. Remove the damper arm at the glove support and gently squeeze the glove box.
Next is to locate the cabin air filter cartridge which is just behind the place of the glove box. Pull the tabs of either side of the filter and remove it. By removing the filter you have two options: either to replace it with a new one or clean it. The latter option is recommended if the filter is still in good shape and can still adequately absorbed particles. The former option is best if the filter is old and is no longer porous enough to absorb particles. For a
used Toyota Sienna, replacing its air filter cabins is one way of keeping the auto's filter in good shape.
After cleaning or replacing the filter, reinsert the cartridge in to the filter cavity and push the tabs back in place. Reinstall the glove box by screwing the bottom hinges and gently squeezing the sides inward and upward motion. Slide the damper arm back to its place and re-screw the glove box. These are simple cleaning steps which can be done with the help of Toyota Sienna's manual. But if you think you are too amateur to clean cabin air filters, you can pay a visit to
used vans dealerships and let auto personnel do the cleaning for you.
