How To Clean A Dishwasher?

By:

It is ironic that you have to clean up your dishwasher but you have to do it right and do it frequently to keep it in a good condition and to maintain its efficiency. As we wash dishes using a dishwasher, little food particles and grease get trapped in the corners of or cling to the walls of our cute little dishwasher. Eventually, the particles keep on accumulating and form debris resulting in bad odor and appearance. Here are some tips that would help you clean your dishwasher.
Get hot water in a small bucket or a mug.
Add some detergent.
Use a brush dipped in the soapy water and start working on the walls of the dishwasher.
Concentrate on corners and crevices because these are the points where dirt and oil are likely to settle.
Go around the hinges on the door and at the bottom. You would not believe what you would see.
You should now start scrubbing using a cleanser such as Soft Scrub.
Use a sponge to wipe off all the dirt you brushed off the corners and crevices.
Now, get the bottom rack out. Hard food chunks can get trapped in the drain area and damage the pump. Wipe around the drain area to ensure nothing of the sort is happening to your bottom rack.
Now with a wet sponge wipe off all the cleaning solution that you have just used.
Fill a dishwasher safe cup with white vinegar.
Place it inside the dishwasher and run the cycle.
As the dishwasher washes the cup (actually it is the other way round), the vinegar would spill off ad reach all the corners and crevices.
This way the entire machine would be sanitized.
If you do not have any white vinegar, go for lemon juice instead.
To remove any stubborn stains that would still be glaring at you, use hot water and baking powder to wash them off.
Additional Tips
Take care of your appliance. Do not use a gel detergent in your dishwasher. There are several reasons for that. Gels contain bleach and tend to stick to the walls. This can damage and dissolve the casing and add to the debris. When you place dishes in your dishwasher, make sure you take out any chunks of food and big particles. This would prevent your dishwasher from wearing out sooner or getting ridiculously dirty on the inside.
