How To Clean A Cast Iron Grill?

By:

Cleaning up kitchen utensils is easy once you acquire the required information and change your habits accordingly. Iron grill pans get particularly dirty because of the inside structure of the pan. The design makes the grease more likely to get accumulated beside the grills. In order to wash the iron grill pan, you have to follow a different set of guidelines than those typically used for other kitchen utensils.
What you need is a brush of hard metal bristles or nylon bristles. Other materials that you need include kosher salt and vegetable oil. Also, keep a clean cotton cloth with you and some paper towels.
Use a nylon brush with stiff bristles and rub off any residue in the iron grill pan. Do not use soap. Have some water in the pan and bring it to a boil. This would soften any remaining residue. Again with the hard metallic brush you can scrape off whatever is remaining. As an alternative people, use a stainless steel or copper grill brush to scrape off the residue.
Soap and detergent are not the right cleaners. Make a cleaner of your own.
Mix one tablespoon of kosher salt in a table spoon of vegetable oil and make a paste.
Put the paste in the pan and make sure it reaches every inch.
Again use the nylon brush to clean it off.
The paste would pull out any residue and with a brush; you would remove every trace of debris in the pan.
Now use a dry linen cloth to dry the pan. Smear the girdle with a film of vegetable oil. Do this while the pan is still warm from the boiling.
Use a cotton cloth to do this.
Now place it in an oven or a stove for 30 minutes or so and now it would be ready to be used.
Some people preheat the iron in an over before cleaning it using the salt paste. I find it preferable to boil water in it so that it gets heated and also the water as it boils cleans up the inside to a great extent and makes your job easier as you use the salt paste.
As an important note, it should be mentioned that you should clean your pans frequently using a wire mesh as this would prevent the pan for getting too stubbornly built up with the debris.
