How To Classify Among Kidney Infections?

By:

Kidneys are bean shaped organs situated near the lower back and below the ribs. This urinary organ plays a crucial rule in eliminating liquid waste (urine) from the body. It is responsible for maintaining adequate concentration of essential nutrients in the body. Basically, there are two types of upper urinary tract infections which are explained below:

Glomerulonephritis: This infection is caused due a bacterium known as Glomeruli. This kidney infection can be further classified into acute Glomerulonephritis and chronic Glomerulonephritis. The acute infection is an inflammatory disease of the kidney which hampers the functionality of both the kidneys. However, chronic Glomerulonephritis leads to renal failure which blocks the flow of urine from the kidneys to urinary bladder.

Initially, the infection is acute which turns chronic due to inadequate treatment. Hence, it's advisable to consult a doctor as soon as the symptoms of acute Glomerulonephritis occur. During renal failure, kidneys operate for 20 to 30 years but after the period you need to undergo a kidney transplant or dialysis.

Pyelonephritis: This infection is caused due to e-coli bacterium that infects the bladder walls and spread the infection to the kidneys. The symptoms of kidney infections are quite similar to bladder infection. This infection is more dangerous than Glomerulonephritis which shows minor effects on the body. However, pyelonephritis is accompanied by symptoms such as high fever, painful urine secretion, blood in urine etc.

This chronic ailment can lead to complete renal failure. Hence, you'll need to undergo a kidney transplant as soon as the damage occurs. Under severe cases, the infection can flow into the bloodstreams which can be life threatening. Hence, you should consult a doctor as soon as you notice symptoms of bladder infections.

So, don't avoid the symptoms and get yourself diagnosed for the kidney infections as soon as possible.
