How To Choose The Right Instant Garage

By:

Instant garages are becoming an increasingly popular value based storage alternative for cars, RVs, boats, trucks and more. The uses of these structures are endless, however, each prospective buyer must first understand his storage needs and the different types of garage products available.

One of the most important garage features to grasp is the characteristics of the cover. Most manufacturers use a material called polyethylene. The thickness of the polyethylene is extremely important. The thickness of the cover is most often stated in oz/square yard (or oz/square meter). Typically, the more mass or weight per square yard, the higher the quality. Some manufacturers use very thin materials which generally result in reduced life expectancy. The life expectancy of a polyethylene can range from 3-25 years, depending on environment, care of the owner, and cover thickness. Some manufacturers warranty covers up to 15 years.

Frame construction is another key feature to understand when choosing instant garages. Frames are typically round steel tubing with a corrosion resistant coating. Corrosion resistant coatings can range from either galvanized or powder coated. As a general rule, the galvanized products resist corrosion more effectively. The pipe gauge of the frame is very important for rigidity and durability. The lower the gauge of the steel tubing, the thicker the material which generally results in increased durability.

Instant garages come in different sizes and shapes. Garage sizes generally start a 8 wide and go as high a 30 wide. The smaller 8 10 wide garages can be as long as 20. Wider buildings can be up to 50 in length. As a consumer, it is important to understand your storage needs. As general rule, you always need more storage space than you think. A majority of instant garage products are available in round or house style (also called peak or gable). The round style garages typically are better for moisture roll off but may have less door width opening. The consumer must also understand the size & shape of the contents to be stored and obtain a garage with the proper door opening so the contents can be stored properly.

An instant garage can be used to store a thousands of items, however, consumers must understand the different options and judge these products in conjunction with their instant storage needs.
