It is proper to wear a tie when applying for a loan at the bank, or appointments with an attorney. Certainly, taking an important client out to dinner requires a tie. Wearing a tie for a romantic candlelight dinner is a definite plus; it shows your date you respect her, and care about her.

Of course, you should wear a suitable necktie to a funeral. This is indeed a proper sign of respect toward the deceased and family. A dark color is preferred, with dark gray being perfect. In addition, a trip to the opera or theater requires a tie. Dinner parties, and visits to elite restaurants also require a tie. Doing so makes the man shine with confidence and poise. This is especially important if the dinner is part of sealing an important business deal.

Once knowing that a tie is needed for certain events, the question becomes what color tie is proper? Indeed, this can seem like a daunting task. Still, when we look closer there are certain patterns that fit into certain designs. Once the man becomes aware of this he can easily become expert in selecting the proper tie for any occasion. Further, once the he knows the secret, the man can match tie color and design to match his own persona.

Solid ties are an excellent choice for business. You cannot go wrong wearing the traditional dark blue tie when conducting business. Solids are acceptable for a night out on the town. When in doubt, go with a solid. Striped ties are another good choice for business, important meetings and can be worn to dinner parties too. Ties with patterns are acceptable for the office, but the patterns should not be extravagant. While they can be worn out to dinner, the pattern should be chosen so as not to cause distractions.

Finally, knowing when to wear a tie is important for the distinguished man. Wearing a tie for business is required, and should be worn at weddings and funerals. Elegant dinners also require a proper tie. Solid colors are the easiest to match. For business, dark blue is always good. Striped ties are also a good choice for business and dining out. While patterned ties can be worn, it is best to wear muted patterns in business environments.
