How To Choose The Best Lawn Mower That Suits Your Needs

By:

Many lawn mower manufacturers are producing high-quality durable mowers these days. That has an up side and a down side.

The consumer now has a wide variety to choose from, so there is a good quality mower for every job and budget. That is the up side. The down side is that the choice is more difficult and confusing now because of so many options.

Narrowing your choices is key. Do you need to ride on the mower, or walk behind it? A walk behind mower that you push is for small to moderate sized expanses of grass. You can find electric models or gas powered ones. You will also want to get an edger to get the spots you can't reach with the mower.

But back to the overall choice. What brand do you want? There are plenty of reputable brands that are producing really great mowers. Your job is to figure out the machine that is in your price range, and best suits your needs.

Excellent gas powered walk behind mowers are made by MTD, Snapper, Toro, and Reel. On the other hand, if you want a quieter machine or are worried about saving energy, try a cordless electric model by Black & Decker, Honda, or Simplicity.

You're better off with a riding mower, though, if your yard is large or if you are doing commercial mowing. In that case, look for the brands John Deere, Murray, and Husqvarna. These machines consistently perform well, get great reviews, and have zero-turn capabilities (basically they can pivot or rotate in place). These run on gasoline or petrol.

Regardless of the quality of the mower you purchase, you'll have to do maintenance and repair. It's the nature of machinery to wear out. Common trouble spots are belts, blades, and motors.

Your mulching deck will probably last the life of the machine. Do be careful of the engine though. Keep it oiled, and don't let gasoline sit unused in the tank. The engine is expensive to replace, so keeping up with maintenance is well worthwhile.
